POSITION: Information Specialist

WORK HOURS: Full time; 40 hours/week.
SALARY: Ordinarily resident: FSN-10 on the local compensation scale
Not-ordinarily resident: FP-5

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION
The incumbent’s major responsibility is monitoring media developments and conducting a daily press briefing for the Ambassador and senior Embassy officials. The incumbent reports to the Information Officer (IO) and serves as the IO’s press advisor. He/she is responsible for developing and maintaining high-level contact with a broad range of journalists and media representatives, including producers and managers. The incumbent also assists with Embassy outreach, organizing programs for U.S. official visitors and experts, drafting press releases, coordinating press conferences and interviews, and implementing Embassy outreach programs. He/she also drafts regular press reports for Washington consumers.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
NOTE: All applicants are instructed to address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each criterion. The job knowledge and skills /abilities detailed below are required for the full performance of the job.
  • A Bachelor Degree in Journalism, Political Science, International Relations, or related field is required.
  • Two years of experience in press-related agency or media outlet is required.
  • Level IV (fluent) written and spoken English and Spanish are required.
  • The applicant must have a deep knowledge of the U.S. and of the local media environment and domestic political, economic and social situation. S/he must be able to provide political advice and sound judgment on key topics.
  • He/she must also be able to write clearly and concisely under short deadlines
  • Interpretation and translation skills are a must.
